Three-phase induction motors operate based on the principle of electromagnetic induction.
Three-phase induction motors operate based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When three-phase symmetrical alternating current flows through the stator windings, a rotating magnetic field is generated between the stator and the rotor. This rotating magnetic field cuts through the rotor windings, inducing an electromotive force and current in the rotor circuit. Under the influence of the rotating magnetic field, the current in the rotor conductors exerts a force that causes the rotor to rotate.
What Is a Three-Phase Induction Motor?
A three-phase induction motor is a type of induction motor that is powered by a 380V three-phase AC power supply. Since the rotor of a three-phase induction motor rotates in the same direction as the stator’s rotating magnetic field but at a different speed—resulting in a slip rate—it is called a three-phase induction motor.
What Are the Applications of Three-Phase Induction Motors?
Three-phase induction motors are the dominant products in the small and medium-sized motor market. As one of the most important power equipment, they convert electrical energy into mechanical energy to drive various mechanical devices. They are widely used in industries such as chemical, textile, metallurgy, construction, agricultural machinery, mining, and light industry, and are extensively employed as the power source for the main mechanical drives of fans, water pumps, compressors, machine tools, printing presses, light rail transit, and mining electric vehicles.
What is the difference between three-phase and single-phase power?
1. In a three-phase system, there are three live wires labeled L1, L2, and L3, and a neutral wire labeled N; in a single-phase system, there is one live wire and one neutral wire, labeled L and N, respectively.
2. The voltage of a single-phase power supply is 220 VAC, which is typically used in homes and schools; the voltage of a three-phase power supply is 380 VAC, which is generally used in industrial facilities and factories.
